Albany Demonstration Garden

Welcome to the Albany Demonstration Garden

The Albany Garden is a small but enthusiastic group of gardeners whose primary purpose aligns with the MG program-- to bring research based information to the home and community gardener.

To that end we maintain two beds in the community garden that serves the city of Albany residents. We have one planted as a square foot garden growing vegetables in the typical climate of Albany (ie shady, windy) and the other planted with a mix of plants that we hoped would encourage home gardeners toward "edible landscaping" mixing some of our Alameda County All stars like Heuchera and some natives like Penstemon with edibles/ herbs. We planted a cover crop of favas as well.

Our Garden Talks

We hold hour long workshops (talk + Q&A) on a variety of topics from March through September (weather permitting). Our 2017 Garden Talks schedule includes talks covering vegetables, dealing with pests, edible landscaping, perennial herb gardening and more.

The free talks begin at 11:00 am on the third Saturday of the month (please see schedule below). Be sure to bring your questions and and plant samples of concern; we'll hold a plant doctor session after the talk!
