Beginning Gardener Support Group - Spring 2022

garden class
Would you like to grow your own organic vegetables, but don’t know how to get started? Would you like to learn which vegetables are suitable for growing in the summer and grow best in Alameda County?

We have the answers you need!

These and many other topics will be covered in the upcoming Beginning Gardener Support Group sessions over the course of six weeks starting the week of April 11th. As this is training for hands-on success, you must be willing to start a warm-season vegetable garden if you are not already planning to have one.

All six one-hour sessions will be hosted on Zoom. You may choose from three session days: Two small groups sessions will be held in the evening during the week on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7 p.m., one small group session will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Each group will be limited to ten participants.

The individual support group sessions will consist of a short presentation by a Master Gardener on one topic. The topics that will be covered over the six weeks session includes:

  • "Where to plant, preparing your soil and what to plant and when"
  • “Growing from seeds and seedlings,” and “Watering Your Garden”
  • “Maintaining Your Garden and Harvesting”
  • “Dealing with pests and diseases"
  • “Planning ahead (succession planting)”

Each participant then can share photos or videos of their garden and ask questions of the instructor.

** Preference for the sessions will be given to Alameda County residents who attended the April 2, 2022 Beginning Vegetable Gardening webinar. You must be at least 18-years old to participate.

Register to join – slots will be filled first-come, first-served.
