Self Guided Tour Station 8: Monarch Butterfly Habitat

monarch

This section of the garden has a variety of milkweeds, which is the food plant for the caterpillars of the monarch butterfly. There are also a variety of flowers to attract adult butterflies in hopes they will lay their eggs on the milkweed. Monarch numbers have declined over time due to a loss of habitat. This station is an example of how home gardeners might provide habitat to help them.
