Beginning Gardener Support Group - Spring 2023
We have the answers you need!
These and many other topics will be covered in the upcoming Beginning Gardener Support Group sessions over the course of six weeks starting the week of April 10th. As this is training for hands-on success, you must be willing to start a warm-season vegetable garden if you are not already planning to have one.
All six one-hour sessions will be hosted on Zoom. You may choose from two session days: One small group session will be held in the evening during the week on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and one small group session will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Each group will be limited to ten participants.
The individual support group sessions will consist of a short presentation by a Master Gardener on one topic. The topics covered over the six week sessions include:
- Where to plant, preparing your soil and what to plant and when
- Growing from seeds and seedlings,” and “Watering Your Garden
- Maintaining Your Garden and Harvesting
- Dealing with pests and disease
- Planning ahead (succession planting)
Each participant then can share photos or videos of their garden and ask questions of the instructor.
** Preference for the sessions will be given to Alameda County residents who attend the March 18, 2023 Beginning Vegetable Gardening webinar. You must be at least 18-years old to participate. Register to join – slots will be filled first-come, first-served.
UPDATE: Both the Tuesday and Saturday groups are now full. You may register and audit either group. Auditors can attend all sessions and will have access to all handouts. However, only participants will have the opportunity to ask the instructor interactive questions and share pictures from their gardens. Auditors will be required to turn off their video and mute their microphone. However, they are allowed to ask questions via Zoom chat. Questions from chat will be addressed during the session, time permitting. In addition, Auditors are automatically added to a wait list on a first-come, first-served basis and and will be offered the opportunity to participate if a slot becomes available.
